Amazon Shifts to Modular Orbital Architecture After Closing Blue Jay Project in South Carolina
ROBOTICS
Amazon has closed the Blue Jay robotic project in January 2026 in South Carolina, reallocating resources to the modular Orbital platform due to high costs and implementation challenges. The modular architecture aims to enhance logistics flexibility and support same-day deliveries, reducing reliance on large warehouses.
The shift reflects a commitment to scalable robotics solutions, with a focus on micro-fulfillment initiatives, particularly in Whole Foods locations. The first dedicated Orbital warehouse is expected to be operational by 2027.
