Arnavutköy Municipality Launches Coastal Protection Project at Karaburun Beach, Istanbul

NOVEL RENEWABLE ENERGY

The Arnavutköy Municipality in Istanbul is implementing the Karaburun Coastal Protection Structures Project to enhance coastal safety and support local fishing activities. The project involves the construction of five breakwaters totaling approximately 1,150 meters, designed to mitigate wave effects, prevent coastal erosion, and create safer beach access.

The breakwaters will also facilitate fishing boat maneuverability and provide habitats for fish, thereby supporting both amateur and professional fishing. Additionally, renewable energy will be generated through wave energy power plants installed on the breakwaters.

A central feature will be a 41-meter wide area on the middle breakwater, accessible via a 100-meter bridge, which will include social amenities such as viewing terraces and playgrounds. The project aims to transform Karaburun into a year-round tourism attraction and improve access to the area from Istanbul Airport.
