Baton Rouge Launches Solar Microgrid to Enhance Disaster Resilience
POWER GRIDS & TRANSMISSION
Baton Rouge has inaugurated a Community Lighthouse solar microgrid at IBEW Local 995, designed to provide backup power during disasters. The facility supports families and emergency crews by maintaining power for medical equipment and communication devices when extreme weather disrupts the electrical grid.
Funding for the project was split between East Baton Rouge Parish and Together Louisiana, with federal tax credits also contributing. Louisiana now has 20 Community Lighthouses, with plans for more in the region.
