Bavaria Invests €78M in Human Exploration Control Center Near Munich for Future Space Missions

Germany is investing €78 million to establish the Human Exploration Control Center (HECC) in Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich, to enhance capabilities for crewed and robotic missions to the Moon and Mars. Funded by €58 million from Bavaria and €20 million from DLR, construction will commence in 2028, with operations starting by 2030. The HECC will support Europe's lunar Gateway initiative and develop autonomous systems for deep space exploration, creating jobs and driving technological innovation in the region.
