BMW Discontinues Level 3 Automated Driving System, Shifts Focus to Level 2+

INDUSTRIAL IOT

BMW has decided to discontinue its 'Personal Pilot L3' system for Level 3 automated driving, following a similar move by Mercedes-Benz. The system, introduced in 2024 for the BMW 7 Series, allowed full control on motorways but was limited in application and expensive.

BMW will now focus on Level 2 automation, offering a new driver assistance system with lower costs and additional functionalities. This shift aligns with the upcoming 'Neue Klasse' models and includes features such as the 'Motorway Assistant' for hands-free driving at speeds up to 130 kph.
