DTU Develops Compact Nanolaser for Optical Communication in Microchips
FLOW CONTROLDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Researchers from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) have developed a compact nanolaser intended for integration into microchips. This technology could potentially reduce computer energy consumption by half by utilizing photons for internal chip communication instead of electrical signals.
The nanolaser is built on a semiconductor membrane and operates efficiently at room temperature. Future improvements will involve integrating electrical injection to enhance its applicability in commercial products. The findings are detailed in a peer-reviewed article in Science Advances.
