Fraunhofer IML Tests Autonomous Robots for Air Cargo at Munich and Stuttgart Airports
INDUSTRIAL IOT
Fraunhofer IML, with €13.7 million funding from the German Ministry for Digitalization, tested five robots for air cargo automation at Munich and Stuttgart airports. The robots included Fraunhofer's O³dyn and evoBOT, a modified Boston Dynamics Spot, Aurrigo's AutoDolly Tug, and Götting KG's Linde E20 forklift.
The trials aimed to enhance cargo transport efficiency between aircraft and warehouses. Results showed the robots face challenges, particularly with standardization and adverse weather conditions, and emphasized the need for further development before achieving full autonomy.
