Great River Energy, ITC Midwest, and Xcel Energy have proposed the PowerOn Midwest project, featuring a 765 kV transmission line to improve electricity delivery across the Upper Midwest. The project, which includes a Certificate of Need application to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, aims to connect key substations in southern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota, with construction expected to begin by 2030 and the line operational by 2034. Additionally, it comprises two 345 kV projects to enhance existing infrastructure.
