India is negotiating for increased access to steel scrap from the European Union to counter the impact of the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which imposes duties on high-carbon imports. The country aims to raise the scrap share in its steel production to 50% by 2047, leveraging electric arc furnace technology to lower emissions, while currently facing challenges due to limited domestic scrap availability and restrictive EU recycling policies.
