Japan Engine Corporation Developing Methanol-Fuelled Marine Engine for 2027
METHANOLHYDROGENAMMONIA
Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) is developing a methanol-fuelled marine engine, with project completion scheduled for 2027. This initiative follows the successful development of J-ENG's first ammonia-fuelled engine in August 2025.
The company is also working on a hydrogen-fuelled engine and plans to leverage the expertise gained from these projects in methanol engine development. The rise in demand for green methanol is anticipated as it can notably reduce greenhouse gas emissions. J-ENG aims to support the growth of Japan's shipping and shipbuilding sectors by introducing a range of next-generation fuel engines.
