Kashmir Saffron Growers Advocate for Solar Pumps to Activate Defunct Irrigation Systems

FLOW CONTROL

Saffron growers in Kashmir's Pampore region are requesting solar pumps to restore a defunct sprinkler irrigation system established under the National Saffron Mission in 2008. Out of 124 boreholes installed, 77 are non-functional, impacting saffron production, which has significantly declined over the years. Farmers argue that solar pumps would reduce operational costs and improve irrigation efficiency.
