Massachusetts Explores Data Centers as Carbon Removal Solutions through Direct Air Capture
DIRECT AIR & OCEAN CAPTUREDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURECARBON CAPTURE
Massachusetts is investigating the use of direct air capture (DAC) systems in conjunction with its growing network of data centers to improve carbon dioxide removal (CDR). By leveraging low-grade waste heat from these facilities, the state aims to enhance DAC efficiency and remove thousands of tons of CO2 annually, despite challenges in CO2 storage. Microsoft is currently piloting this technology within its data centers, aligning with Massachusetts' comprehensive policy framework for carbon removal.
