Morocco Tests Floating Solar Panels to Combat Water Evaporation and Generate Power
NOVEL RENEWABLE ENERGYSOLAR ENERGY
Morocco is piloting floating photovoltaic panels at the Tangier reservoir to combat water evaporation and generate electricity, with plans to deploy 22,000 panels to produce around 13 megawatts. This initiative aims to enhance water conservation amid rising temperatures and declining rainfall, while the government targets an annual potable water production of 1.7 billion cubic meters by 2030 through desalination and improved water transfer systems. Additional projects are being evaluated at Oued El Makhazine and Lalla Takerkoust.
