NextEra Energy Revives Lake Erie Connector Project for Electricity Transmission from Canada
POWER GRIDS & TRANSMISSION
The Lake Erie Connector project, first proposed in 2013 and revived by NextEra Energy Transmission, aims to create a 73-mile underwater power line from Ontario to Erie County. Identified as a potential national interest electric transmission corridor by the U.S.
Department of Energy, the project seeks to address anticipated electricity shortfalls in the Erie region by 2030. If approved, it will bring enough power for approximately 800,000 homes and is expected to be operational by 2031.
