Pertamina EP Rantau has developed the Ultimate Sand Trap (USAT) innovation to mitigate production loss risks caused by sand issues in mature oil wells. The USAT accessory, installed in the pump tubing, has significantly reduced costs and increased revenue.

The USAT technology, applied since 2024, complements the We Are Fines method initiated in 2023. It aims to improve the operational lifespan of electric submersible pumps (ESPs) by preventing sand from entering the pumps. Pertamina EP Rantau received a Platinum award at the 2025 Upstream Improvement & Innovation Award for this achievement.
