The Plateau State Government has initiated a ₦200 million solar-powered water scheme to combat chronic water shortages. The project, launched on February 17, 2026, features a pilot plant in Mado community and aims to replicate the model across underserved areas.

This initiative is part of a ₦13.7 billion infrastructure overhaul and includes partnerships for rehabilitating major dams and treatment plants. Interim water trucking services are being provided during construction, with plans for a decentralized solar-driven water supply system.
