Pleasure Island Beach Nourishment Project to Resume in March with Increased Costs
FLOW CONTROL
The beach nourishment project for Carolina and Kure beaches, paused for a new dredge, will restart in mid-March with a new cost of $26.5 million. The project aims to protect nesting sea turtles and shorebirds by completing work by April 30.
Funding comes from federal, state, and county room-tax funds. The project will now involve 1.8 million cubic yards of sand, adjusted from initial estimates.
