Severn Trent Recommissioning Witches Oak Water with Floating Wetlands for Enhanced Water Treatment

FLOW CONTROL

Severn Trent Water is recommissioning the Witches Oak Water site in Derby as part of a drought resilience strategy, increasing the raw water supply by up to 90 Ml/d. The project incorporates floating wetlands for preliminary water treatment, aiming to improve water quality and reduce treatment energy and chemical needs.

A total of 31 floating wetlands have been installed across three lakes, enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services. This initiative is part of a £700M green recovery program to develop low carbon water resources.
