Renewal works for the North East Line (NEL) power supply system in Singapore will commence in 2026, following government acceptance of a task force's recommendations aimed at enhancing rail reliability. Key improvements include upgrading the power intake at the NEL depot in Sengkang and installing additional traction power substations.

The task force also proposed better service recovery strategies, spare-part management, and improved monitoring of rail conditions. Longer service closures may be required during the upgrade process.
