UK-Jamaica Partnership Launches Seagrass Restoration Initiative for Caribbean Coastal Protection
CLIMATE POLICY, REGULATION & CARBON MARKETS
A UK-Jamaica partnership aims to restore seagrass habitats to enhance coastal protection and support fishing communities. This initiative, part of the UK's Sustainable Blue Economies Programme, involves the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, Jamaica's NEPA, and UNEP.
A technical workshop held on February 5-6, 2026, in Kingston brought together experts to review guidance for seagrass restoration. The project will produce the first Regional Guidance on Seagrass Restoration, assessments for carbon markets, and strategies to strengthen coastal ecosystems.
