Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh assured in Lok Sabha that stringent legal frameworks are in place to protect the marine ecosystem of Kollam from coastal mining. The government is committed to environmental conservation and has sanctioned ₹1,418.51 crore for various projects under PMMSY to support Kerala's fishermen and boost biodiversity.

This includes funding for deep-sea vessels, artificial reefs, and alternative livelihood options. Infrastructure upgrades for the fisheries sector were also outlined.
