Vioneo Withdraws €1.5 Billion Green Plastics Project from Antwerp to China
METHANOL
Vioneo has canceled its €1.5 billion green plastics factory project in Antwerp, opting to relocate it to China due to better access to green methanol and more favorable commercial conditions. The facility, which was expected to produce 300,000 tons of polyethylene and polypropylene annually starting in 2028, represents a setback for sustainability efforts in Belgium and the Netherlands amid rising energy costs. The Antwerp port authority noted that this decision highlights ongoing structural issues within the European industrial and energy systems.
