Wave Energy Generator and Medicinal Plant App Win 2025 SRT Contest in Philippines

NOVEL RENEWABLE ENERGY

The 2025 Socially Relevant Technologies (SRT) Contest, organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, recognized a wave-powered electricity generator and a medicinal plant identification app as the top technologies. SALTRIC Electric Power Generation Services won first place in the professional category with the Marissa Turbine, which converts ocean wave energy into electricity for use in coastal areas.

In the youth category, the University of Makati's HerbaLens app, which identifies medicinal plants via image capture, secured top honors. Other notable entries included GH-Gaz by LITHOS Manufacturing, which placed second for its gas purification technology, and Aldepulla Industrial Oil Restoration Services & Consultancy's oil restoration device, which came in third.

The youth category also featured Batangas State University's Project BANGKA in second place and St. Paul University Philippines' ShelfGuard in third.
