ABB Commissions Denmark's First Urban Battery Energy Storage System in Copenhagen

WIND ENERGYENERGY STORAGE

ABB has successfully commissioned Denmark's first urban battery energy storage system, integrated with the local grid in Nordhavn, Copenhagen. The lithium-ion based system, designed for Radius, DONG Energy's electrical grid division, aims to enhance power supply security and support renewable energy integration.

The system will play a crucial role in managing the variability of solar and wind energy production. It is part of the 'EnergyLab Nordhavn' project, which seeks to develop sustainable energy solutions and achieve Copenhagen's goal of becoming the world's first carbon neutral capital by 2025. The project, running from 2015 to 2019, serves as a living laboratory for innovative energy infrastructures.
