Abu Dhabi Launches Carbon Capture Policy to Regulate CCUS Activities
CARBON CAPTURE
Abu Dhabi's Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs has introduced a Carbon Capture Policy to regulate Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) activities, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and attract investments in carbon management technologies. The policy focuses on optimizing geological resources for CO2 storage and enhancing investment efficiency through shared infrastructure, with major projects like Al Reyadah and the Habshan CCUS project targeting significant CO2 capture volumes. Currently, the UAE captures approximately 0.8 million tons per annum of CO2, with plans to scale this to 200 million tons per annum.
