ADBA Urges UK Government to Establish Timetable for Biomethane Inclusion in Emissions Trading Scheme
CARBON CAPTURE
The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) has called on the UK government to promptly confirm a timetable for including biomethane in the emissions trading scheme, highlighting the current treatment of biogas as fossil gas. Despite Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband's support for biomethane as a cost-effective path to net zero, no commitment has been made to resolve this issue.
ADBA chair Chris Huhne expressed frustration over the delay, emphasizing the significant investment at stake. A consultation on future biomethane policy is expected by the end of the 2025-26 financial year.
