Agco Unveils Hydrogen-Powered Fendt Helios Tractor Prototype with Zero Emissions
Agco has introduced the H2 Fendt Helios tractor, powered by a 100-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell and a 25-kW battery system, delivering 135 hp with zero emissions. The prototype, featuring five compressed-hydrogen tanks, is part of a German research initiative funded by the German Agricultural Society.
Hydrogen, produced by splitting water molecules, offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels. Although typically derived from natural gas, clean hydrogen production is possible through renewable sources.
The tractor requires a specialized hydrogen filling station for refueling. While this prototype represents progress in agricultural technology, challenges such as cost and infrastructure remain to be addressed for broader adoption.
