Port of Long Beach Launches $10 Million Hydrogen Fuel Grant Program for Drayage Trucks
The Port of Long Beach has initiated a Hydrogen Fuel Grant Program, allocating up to $10 million to support early adopters of hydrogen fuel cell drayage trucks and encourage the transition from diesel trucks. This program is expected to generate at least 3.7 million zero-emissions miles if fully utilized.
Funding is sourced from the Clean Truck Fund Rate, established in 2022 to incentivize zero-emissions trucks and necessary fueling infrastructure. The Port has previously committed $27.5 million to battery-electric truck projects, resulting in approximately 540 additional battery-electric trucks in the San Pedro Bay ports complex.
Additionally, $1.45 million has been allocated to fuel cell truck programs, with about 100 hydrogen fuel cell trucks registered at the Port. The program will reimburse eligible participants monthly for confirmed fuel usage, with evaluations every six months to assess conditions and subsidies.
