American Biofuels Maritime Initiative Launched to Promote U.S. Biofuels in Maritime Sector
The American Biofuels Maritime Initiative (ABMI) was officially launched on December 11, 2025, co-chaired by the American Biogas Council (ABC) and the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA). The initiative aims to collaborate with the U.S. government to promote policies that enhance the use of American-made biofuels in the global maritime sector.
By integrating biofuels such as ethanol, biomethane, and biodiesel into maritime fuel, the ABMI seeks to fill market gaps while supporting economic and environmental goals. The initiative will advocate for policies that increase market access for U.S. farmers and biofuel producers, positioning the U.S. as a leader in maritime fuel policy. The maritime sector presents significant market opportunities for renewable fuels sourced from U.S. agricultural products, which can stimulate domestic business and strengthen rural economies.
