Eren Holding Transforms Shotton Mill into UK's Largest Recycled Cardboard and Tissue Facility
Eren Holding has acquired the Shotton Mill in Deeside, Flintshire, with plans to convert it into the largest UK facility for recycled cardboard and tissue paper. The mill, originally opened in 1983 as a major newsprint producer, will process around 830,000 tonnes of waste paper annually, reducing Britain's reliance on waste exports.
The project, supported by the UK and Welsh governments, emphasizes environmental sustainability and resource conservation. Utilizing materials from certified suppliers, the mill will operate its own combined heat and power plant, capable of using hydrogen when available, and will generate biogas from waste. Additionally, a new wastewater treatment plant aims to minimize environmental waste.
