Amsterdam Allocates €4M for 13km Hydrogen Pipeline in Port Amid National Network Concerns
Amsterdam has allocated €4 million to develop a 13km hydrogen pipeline network in its port, amid uncertainties about the Netherlands' national hydrogen plans. The funding, awarded to the H2Avennet project from the Climate and Energy Fund, will support early-stage development and engineering.
The pipeline, managed by Alliander subsidiary Firan, aims to connect hydrogen importers, producers, and industrial users, operating at pressures between 8 and 16 bar. It will link the port, North Sea Canal, and HoojTij industrial estate, and may integrate with the national hydrogen network in the future.
Currently in the design phase, a final investment decision is expected in 2026, with operations slated to begin in 2028. Concerns have been raised about the feasibility of the national hydrogen network despite a €750 million subsidy due to low demand and rising costs.
