ABS has granted an Approval in Principle to Modec Inc. for a novel offshore liquefied CO2 floating storage and injection unit, designed in collaboration with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. Capable of storing and injecting up to 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually, the system aims to enhance carbon sequestration efficiency by eliminating onshore facilities. With a focus on minimizing emissions through onboard carbon capture, the FSIU will facilitate direct offshore injection, advancing the carbon capture, utilization, and storage chain.
