Aptamus Develops LCO2 Barge for Carbon Capture and Storage Infrastructure in U.S. Gulf Coast
Aptamus Carbon Solutions LLC is designing a CO₂ discharge terminal in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, enhancing carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure along the U.S. Gulf Coast. This project aims to connect emission sources with sequestration sites and facilitate large-scale CO₂ transport.
The Gulf Coast, with over 30 CCS-related projects proposed or active, is a prime region for this initiative. Aptamus, in collaboration with LBC and Port Tampa Bay, is creating a waterborne supply chain for captured CO₂, which will be transported to permanent sequestration sites.
The company has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from ABS for its LCO₂ barge, designed to hold 20,000 metric tons of liquefied CO₂. This new vessel represents a significant innovation in maritime technology and supports the Tampa Regional Intermodal Carbon Hub project, addressing the region's substantial CO₂ emissions.
