Aurora Botnia has undergone a retrofit with a new 10.4-MWh AYK Energy battery system, enhancing its total capacity to 12.6 MWh. This upgrade at Turku Repair Yard in Finland surpasses the previous largest marine battery retrofit by 500 kWh.

The vessel aims to reduce fossil energy use by approximately 10,000 MWh annually and cut emissions by nearly 25%. The project involved AYK Energy, Wärtsilä, and Foreship, and supports Wasaline's goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2025.
