Australia Develops New Carbon Crediting Methodology for Biomethane Expansion
BIOFUELSCARBON CAPTURE
Australia is advancing a carbon crediting methodology for alternative waste treatment, aiming to expand emissions reduction efforts. The new approach, led by the Australian Resources Recovery Council, introduces a longer crediting period and recognizes biomethane generation.
The previous method lapsed in March 2025, generating 5.57 million carbon credits. Industry submissions advocate for extending the crediting period to 20-25 years and prioritizing biomethane production, projecting an additional 13 to 14 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent abatement annually.
