Ecogas, operator of New Zealand's first commercial-scale anaerobic digestion facility, has received the AD Hero of the Year award for its pioneering food waste collection and treatment system. The plant processes 75,000 tonnes of organic waste annually, significantly reducing carbon emissions and contributing to the country's net-zero goals. The facility utilizes a specialized pasteurization system to ensure that the resulting biofertilizer is safe for agricultural use, while also recovering energy efficiently.
