Baleària Establishes Spain's First Green Maritime Corridor between Valencia and Palma by 2030

BIOFUELS

Baleària, along with the ports of Valencia and Palma, has signed an agreement on December 12 to create Spain's first green maritime corridor. The initiative aims to achieve zero emissions on this route by 2030, utilizing biofuels for two dual-engine vessels transporting passengers and freight.

The agreement was signed by key officials including Baleària's president Adolfo Utor and the presidents of the Valencia and Balearic Port Authorities. The plan includes installing onboard batteries for renewable electricity and shore power connection systems.

This project is part of broader decarbonisation efforts by the Valencia and Balearic port authorities, which will enhance port battery charging infrastructure and investigate low-carbon fuels. The initiative is viewed as a significant step towards sustainable maritime activities, aligning with the Net Zero Emissions roadmap.
