Bihar Signs MoUs for 2,120 MW Pumped Storage Projects with GreenCo and Sun Petrochemicals

The Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) signed two MoUs with private developers for pumped storage power projects totaling 2,120 MW in Nawada district, with a capital investment of Rs 13,000 crore. GreenCo Energies Pvt Ltd will develop a 1,200 MW project in Ekamba village for Rs 7,800 crore, while Sun Petrochemicals Pvt Ltd will establish a 920 MW facility in Gosaitari village for Rs 5,200 crore.

The projects, part of the Bihar Pump Storage Project Promotion Policy, 2025, aim to enhance energy security, integrate renewable energy, and improve grid stability. The combined energy storage capacity will be 14,281 MWh.

The initiative is expected to create approximately 8,000 jobs during construction and support Bihar's goal of achieving India’s net zero emissions target by 2070. Implementation is scheduled to begin shortly and is expected to be completed within three years.
