BLM Approves Blue Spruce's Dry Piney Helium and Carbon Sequestration Project in Wyoming
The Bureau of Land Management approved the Dry Piney helium and carbon sequestration project by Blue Spruce Operating, LLC, located near LaBarge, Wyoming. The project aims to produce over 800 million cubic feet of liquid helium annually and includes nine gas production wells and an acid-gas injection facility for carbon sequestration.
The project, estimated to cost $737 million, also received a construction permit from the Wyoming Industrial Siting Council and a $6 million grant from the state in 2024. Commercial operations are expected to begin in summer 2028, producing about 2.3 million cubic feet of helium per day, contributing significantly to global supply.
Additionally, the facility will sequester up to 4.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to emissions from 4.9 million cars. The project is projected to generate $1.7 billion in taxes over its 40-year lifespan.
