Brazil's Potential Leadership in Carbon Removal Market Amid EU Developments
CARBON CAPTURE
Brazil has the opportunity to become a leading global carbon removal supplier, crucial for achieving climate neutrality. The EU has adopted methodologies to certify carbon removal credits and aims to invest in capturing up to 150 million tons of CO₂ annually, indicating a growing demand for imported credits.
While existing natural solutions can remove around 2 billion tons of CO₂ per year, technological innovations like DACCS, BECCS, and Biochar offer complementary methods. Brazil's biomass resources position it well to develop these technologies, but it must advance regulations for carbon capture and storage to capitalize on this market.
