The Cabinet has approved tenders for a 160 MW/640 MWh battery energy storage project aimed at strengthening the national electricity grid, as proposed by Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody. The initiative will involve installing 10 MW/40 MWh systems at 16 substations, utilizing a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) model. This project is designed to enhance grid stability and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources.
