Can Tho and Technofit Sdn. Bhd. Discuss 10MW Biomass Power Plant Development
On December 11, representatives from Can Tho's People's Committee met with Malaysia's Technofit Sdn. Bhd. to discuss a proposal for a 10MW rice-husk biomass power plant in Long My and Long Phu 1 wards.
This project aligns with Can Tho's clean-energy investment priorities. Technofit, with 27 years of experience in power generation, will utilize biomass combustion technology to convert rice husk into electricity, reducing open-field burning and benefiting the local rice sector.
Can Tho's Vice Chairman Vuong Quoc Nam welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the city's focus on environmentally friendly technologies. The city's rice cultivation area is approximately 718,000ha, producing around 4.7 million tonnes annually, providing ample feedstock.
Technofit is also considering other biomass sources. The project will require land clearance and leasing, with a transparent investor-selection process under Vietnamese regulations. This initiative supports Vietnam's emission-reduction commitments.
