Central Coast Water Board Approves Diablo Canyon Wastewater Permit and Certification

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board has approved a five-year NPDES permit for Diablo Canyon Power Plant, allowing the release of up to 2.76 billion gallons of wastewater daily into the Pacific Ocean. The permit includes pollutant limits and requires regular monitoring by PG&E.

Additionally, a Section 401 Water Quality Certification was granted, aligning with federal and state water standards. PG&E is awaiting a decision from the NRC on a 20-year operating license, which is essential for continued operations beyond 2030.
