Central Queensland Power Proposes $2 Billion Wooderson Solar Battery Hybrid in Gladstone

ENERGY STORAGE

Central Queensland Power has proposed a $2 billion Wooderson solar and battery hybrid project in Gladstone, featuring a 450 MW solar farm and 3,600 MWh of battery storage, potentially the largest in Australia. The project, which may also incorporate a wind facility, aims to meet the region's renewable energy needs following the closure of a coal-fired power generator in 2028. Currently undergoing federal approval, construction is expected to begin in early 2028, with operations starting by early 2031, pending additional state and local approvals.
