The Pays de Gex agglomeration inaugurated a €47 million heating network on December 12, 2025, designed to supply 5,800 homes and facilities using waste heat from CERN's particle accelerator. This network, developed by Dalkia, integrates various heat sources, including geothermal energy and biomass, and features energy storage capabilities for seasonal heat management. By the end of the decade, Gex plans to connect with Geneva's Genilac network to enhance heat exchange.
