Chile Approves Battery Storage Projects for Carbon Credits under Agreement with Switzerland
ENERGY STORAGECARBON CAPTURE
Chile has approved two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects to generate and sell carbon credits through a bilateral agreement with Switzerland. The Article 6 National Committee granted approval for these projects, which aim to optimize renewable energy integration and reduce fossil fuel use.
The agreement is among the first in Latin America to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, facilitating the transfer of emission reduction credits while ensuring environmental integrity. The projects mobilize over $1 billion in investments for emission reduction initiatives.
