China's installed energy storage capacity reached 213.3 GW in 2025, exceeding its 2027 target of over 180 GW two years ahead of schedule, according to the China Energy Storage Alliance. This marks a 54% increase from the previous year, with lithium batteries making up over two-thirds of the total capacity and pumped storage accounting for 31.3%. The total investment in energy storage reached approximately RMB250 billion (~$35 billion).
