China Faces Challenges in CO2 Management Amid Pandemic and Economic Pressures
CARBON CAPTURE
Huang Runqiu, head of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, reported to lawmakers that managing the country's CO2 intensity has become increasingly difficult due to the pandemic, extreme weather, and trade tensions. While China has made progress in renewable energy and forest stock, it may not meet its CO2 intensity target for 2025.
Huang emphasized the need for balancing climate actions with economic development. Additionally, China aims to enhance its role in global climate governance and has initiatives to increase the use of AI in the energy sector, as well as plans for renewable energy auctions.
