China has launched the world's first GWh-scale supercapacitor-energy storage project in Jiayuguan, successfully connecting it to the grid. The hybrid system combines 475 MW of lithium iron phosphate batteries with a 25 MW supercapacitor to enhance grid stability and facilitate renewable energy integration. Developed by the China National Nuclear Corporation, the facility supports rapid frequency regulation and addresses critical energy and power requirements for high-renewables systems.
