Cincinnati Parks and Hamilton County Launch Biochar Facility to Convert Waste into Profit
CARBON CAPTURE
Hamilton County's Great Parks and Cincinnati Parks have initiated a biochar facility to convert waste into profit, with a budget of $1.1 million. The facility will compost manure and produce biochar, improving soil quality and aiding in carbon storage.
Funding comes from a 2021 voter-approved levy, a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, and park budgets. Construction began on February 12, 2026, with completion expected in Spring 2026. Carbon Harvest LLC will operate the facility, aiming to position Cincinnati as a leader in climate-friendly technology.
